Inkpen Class

Welcome to the Inkpen Class Page!

In our Reception Class we all work together to provide a positive, caring, safe and stimulating environment for the children. Our approach incorporates all learning styles through activity based topics following children's interests. We continue to support our children to be active learners, exploring the world through a range of indoor and outdoor experiences.

We are fortunate to share a stimulating outdoor learning environment with our Nursery class. This means we have access to a wonderful woodland area. We are influenced by 'forest school' thinking , supporting the children to 'go on adventures' take risks and develop an appreciation of the natural world through physical and sensory exploration.  We are also lucky to have our very own outside space and veranda area, to create a free flow environment for children to choose to do their learning indoors or out. Our outdoor area includes water play, sand tray, climbing equipment, writing and painting stations and our wonderful new mud kitchen, kindly donated by Mrs Ginnetta's uncle.

Your child needs to bring with them each day:

A named water bottle

Their Reading Diary and reading books

Their Reading for Pleasure book (if it needs to be changed)

On hot days they will need a sun hat and sun-cream, applied before school

The Inkpen Class Team

Mrs Ginnetta is the Class Teacher on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Mrs Conway is the Class Teacher on Thursdays and Fridays. Our Teaching Assistant team are Mrs Wright, Mrs Owen, Mrs Hoy and Miss Gilbert. Mrs Allen will be teaching the class on alternate Wednesday afternoons.

Tapestry for Inkpen Class

All children in Reception have their learning experiences recorded on 'Tapestry,' an online learning journal. When staff complete an observation on a child, it is then uploaded to their journal, often with photos or videos for parents and children to enjoy. Parents receive a notification on their phone or by email and they can then comment on their child's achievement. We also encourage parents to add photos and descriptions of exciting events that have happened at home which help us to work together to create an amazing diary of your child's time in Reception.

Reading in Inkpen Class

In Reception, the children build on their phonic knowledge, learning to blend sounds together to read words. This year we have adopted a new and exciting phonics scheme called Storytime Phonics. We use this alongside the 'Letters and Sounds' Scheme. With the help of the Phonics Fairy phonemes are introduced to the children through fun stories and activities. The children also learn to recognise tricky words with the help of the 'Tricky Troll'.

Children are given a Reading Record Book, a reading scheme book and a reading book, to take home, that is directly related to their phonic knowledge to enable them to reinforce what they are learning in school. The children will also be able to choose a 'reading for pleasure' book to share at home. Please read a variety of books as much as you can with your child at home, to show what a pleasurable experience reading can be. We ask that you share your child's school book them at least twice a week. When you have shared your child's reading book and written a comment in their reading dairy, children will be encouraged to put their book into the book box, to be changed. We love to hear all about what you and your child enjoy reading at home, so please record any special stories or library books you share as a record in their reading diary too!

Forest Learning

On alternate Wednesday afternoons, Inkpen class take part in Forest Learning in the school's Forest Area. The children have the exciting opportunity to create and explore nature. They learn about the how to care for the environment, seasonal changes, creatures and habitats. We work on skills such as co-operation, co-ordination, fine-motor and gross-motor, including den-building, bush-craft and tree climbing. Children need wellies or old trainers and a waterproof coat. We go out 'rain or shine'!

If you have any queries about your child, or information to pass on to us, we are available at the end of each day for a brief word. If you need to speak to us for more than a couple of minutes, please make an appointment via the school office. Alternatively, you can email us at inkpen@eynesbury.cambs.sch.uk
