Year 6

Mrs Mandy King and Mrs Naomi Shepherd are your class teachers.  Mrs King teaches the class on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and Mrs Shepherd on Wednesdays.

Throughout the week, year 6 children will be supported by the following adults –

Please provide your child with a pencil case with items to be used in the classroom.  A reminder that the pencil case should be small enough to fit easily into their drawer and should only contain the following equipment (pens and pencils will be provided by the school at the beginning of each term).

  • Black handwriting pens (NO biros please)
  • Blue & pink pens for editing
  • Pencils
  • Sharpener (a sensible, serviceable one please!)
  • Coloured pencils
  • Eraser
  • Small ruler
  • Protractor


Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in school at all times.  This term, year 6 will have 2 lessons a week which will take place on Monday and Thursday.


Indoor PE kit should be:

White t-shirt and blue or black shorts.

Outdoor PE kits should be:

White t-shirt, navy/black jogging bottoms and jumper, suitable trainers.

Children should have both indoor and outdoor kit in school all week just in case please.

As the weather gets hotter, please ensure your child is provided with equipment to protect them from the sun including cream and a sun hat.

As always, no jewellery please, except a small pair of studs for pierced ears which the children will need to be able to remove for PE lessons.  Please no nail varnish and tie hair back if below shoulder length.

As the children get older, please support us in encouraging their independence and responsible attitude by ensuring you send any letters or money in with the children, so they can hand them to us in class to deal with.


Homework will be set on Fridays and should be handed in by the following Wednesday.


English and Maths

Pupils will need to complete an English and Maths activity each week. They will also be set spelling words or spelling patterns to practice regularly throughout the week, which will be tested on a Thursday.  Each week they need to complete spelling sentences to demonstrate how to use the spellings they are learning in context.

Topic homework

Each term the class are given a homework grid with a range of activities to complete reflecting their topic.  They need to complete one of these activities each week in their homework book.


Pupils should continue to read regularly at home (a minimum of three times a week), and parents should sign reading records to confirm that his has happened.

Times tables practice

This term we would like all children to regularly practise their times tables using Times tables Rocks Stars 

Parents should use the home-school communication book to express any concerns or highlight things well done.
