During this unit we will be describing the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the sun in the solar system, describing the movement of the moon relative to the Earth. We will learn why the Earth and moon are spherical bodies and use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.
History and Geography: What a wonderful world!
During this unit of study we will be learning about UK and world wide geography. This will include learning about: time zones, biomes, land use and human and physical geography and its change over time.

RE: What does it mean if God is holy and loving?
During this unit we will discuss biblical ideas and use the bible to understand what Christians think and believe. During this time we will also be visiting Ely cathedral to find out about cathedrals and what they show about Christian beliefs.
PSHE: New beginnings
During this unit we will be investigating responsibilities, rights and rules. We hope the pupils will develop strategies for building collaborative relationships within the class and the school, develop ideas about how to make the classroom a positive learning environment and learn how to seek support from a range of sources.
PE: Dance and team games
PE this term will usually be on a Monday and Wednesday. However, we would suggest that PE kits stay in school in case of any unforeseen changes. Both indoor and outdoor kit will be required as our units this term are dance and team games.
Computing: Staying safe online
During this unit we will investigate our roles in staying safe online by using technology safely, respectfully and responsibly. We will be using ICT to enhance our learning in other subject areas for example through research.
As in any other year group we encourage the children to read regularly at home. We ask for you to aim for at least three times per week and record this in your child home-school communication book.
Remember: Our Year 5 Brancaster residential visit takes place on Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th September!
Please note that home-learning tasks will be set on a Friday and due in on a Wednesday, at the latest. Please encourage your child to ask any questions they may have on a Monday or a Tuesday to ensure their home-learning is completed on time.
