Reading

'Reading makes you brainy!'

In Year 2, your child will read with an adult at least once a week. The children will also participate in a guided reading session during the week; reading a challenging text with an adult. Alongside this, the children read a range of texts as a class, providing further opportunities for us to monitor and assess your child’s reading. During the term, we will be focusing on understanding what we have read to develop our key comprehension skills.  Please make sure that your child brings their reading book and diary into school each day.

PE

Our allocated days for P.E this year are Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child arrives at school in their PE kit on these days. The children will need a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. They will also need a pair of suitable sports shoes for P.E. e.g. plimsolls or trainers.

Due to Health and Safety regulations, all children with hair longer than chin length will need to wear their hair tied back for P.E sessions. If your child has their ears pierced, please ensure that they do not wear earrings on P.E days. If your child is able to remove their earrings independently, then they will be encouraged to take them out before P.E lessons and put them in a small packet or box to take home at the end of the day. As usual, please ensure that every item of your child’s P.E kit is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Home Learning

In Year 2, home learning will be sent out weekly, this will include: reading, spelling and Mathletics. Please give your child as much support with this as he or she needs and add any comments to their reading diaries so that we can support them in school as necessary.

Class Reward System

At the beginning of the school year as a class, we agree on a ‘Class Charter’. This contains agreed behavioural expectations for ALL members of the class.

Making good learning and behaviour choices can lead to:

  • Stickers
  • Weekly Year 2 certificate of achievement

Class Mascot

Our class mascots will begin visiting homes towards the end of September. Watch this space for more information!

Please ensure your child brings in the following EVERY DAY:

A named water bottle.

Reading diary and reading books

If you have any queries about your child, or information to pass on to us, we are available at the end of each day for a brief word. If you need to speak to us for longer, please make an appointment via the school office. Alternatively, you can email us at kerr@eynesbury.cambs.sch.uk

We are sure that this term will be a happy one for the children as they settle back into school and into Year 2!
